EMDR Group Support for Educators & Helping Professionals

Working in education or a helping profession can mean being exposed to emotionally demanding and sometimes particularly difficult experiences. Even after the immediate situation has passed, we can find ourselves continuing to carry its impact.

This might follow a challenging incident with a student, parent, client or family; a safeguarding situation; an experience in which you felt threatened or overwhelmed; a particularly difficult period at work; or a series of stressful experiences that have accumulated over time.

You may have moved on professionally but notice that something still feels “stuck.” Perhaps you feel more defensive, sensitive, anxious or on edge, find yourself reacting more strongly to situations that previously would not have affected you, or notice the impact beginning to spill over from work into your home life.

Our EMDR Group Support provides a safe, structured space to process a specific difficult or stressful experience using the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP), an EMDR-based trauma protocol. The approach helps you identify and process particular “points of disturbance” associated with the experience, the moments that your mind and body may still be responding to.

Importantly, you do not need to disclose your experience or trauma to the group. Each person works privately on their own experience while being guided through the structured process. This means you can benefit from the connection and shared experience of working alongside other professionals, while maintaining privacy around what you are processing.

The group is delivered by Dr Gemma Slack, Licensed Psychologist and EMDR- and G-TEP-trained therapist, who has extensive experience supporting professionals working in education and helping roles.

The intervention is brief, focused and time-limited, comprising four sessions delivered across two weeks (two 2-hour sessions each week). It is designed for people who can identify a particular experience or difficult period they would like to process, rather than as ongoing therapy.

It may be particularly suited to professionals who recognize that something they have experienced is still affecting them but who do not necessarily want, or feel they need, traditional talking therapy.
